Experience the timeless fun of the classic offline 29 card game, playable anytime, anywhere! Known also as the 28 Card Game with slight rule variations, 29 is a beloved South Asian trick-taking game where the Jack and the Nine reign supreme in every suit.
Typically enjoyed by four players in fixed partnerships, with partners seated opposite each other, the game uses 32 cards from a standard 52-card deck. These are divided into the familiar "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades, with eight cards per suit ranked from high to low as follows: J-9-A-10-K-Q-8-7. The objective is to capture tricks that contain high-value cards.
The scoring system is straightforward:
- Jacks: 3 points each
- Nines: 2 points each
- Aces: 1 point each
- Tens: 1 point each
- Other cards (K, Q, 8, 7): No points
This results in a total of 28 points from the cards. Some versions of the game award an extra point for the last trick, bringing the total to 29, which explains the game's name. However, many modern players do not count the last trick's point, yet the game retains its name, 29, even when played with only 28 points.
Traditionally, the Twos, Threes, Fours, and Fives, which are removed from the full 52-card deck, serve as trump indicators. Each player receives one of each suit from these cards. Meanwhile, the Sixes are used to keep score, with each partnership utilizing one red and one black Six.
