How to Play 500 Rummy
Each player is dealt 13 cards in a 2-player game or 7 cards in games with 3–4 players. The objective is simple: be the first to reach 500 points by forming valid sets and sequences—known as melds—and laying them on the table.
On your turn, draw a card either from the stockpile or the discard pile. If you take from the discard pile, you cannot discard the same card in that turn. You may even draw multiple cards from the discard pile under the right conditions, giving you strategic flexibility.
Form sets (cards of the same rank) or sequences (consecutive cards of the same suit). Use the joker wisely—it can stand in for any card to complete a meld and takes on the point value of the card it represents.
Once you’ve laid down your initial melds, you can also lay off additional cards onto existing melds on the table—yours or others’—to boost your score. Numbered cards (2–10) are worth their face value, face cards (J, Q, K) are worth 10 points each, Aces are worth 15, and the joker carries the value of the card it replaces.
When a player successfully discards their last card, the round ends. Each player’s score is calculated by adding the points from their melded and laid-off cards, then subtracting the value of any unmelded cards remaining in hand. These scores accumulate over multiple rounds.
The first player to reach 500 or more points wins the game. In case of a tie, an additional round is played to determine the ultimate winner.
