The Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Systems are revolutionary tools designed for individuals with diabetes, enabling them to monitor their glucose levels without the need for fingerstick calibrations. These systems are specifically indicated for diabetes treatment decisions and are suitable for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients, including children aged 2 years and older.
One of the standout features of the Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro is the real-time glucose readings provided every five minutes. This allows users to stay informed about their current glucose levels and anticipate potential changes, enhancing their ability to manage their diabetes effectively. The systems also offer personalized trend alerts directly on your smart device, notifying you when your glucose levels are either too low or too high.
For added convenience and personalization, the Dexcom G6 system includes an Alert Schedule feature that enables users to customize a second set of alerts. This can be particularly useful for setting different alert settings during work hours versus the rest of the day. Additionally, users can choose from custom alert sounds, including a Vibrate-Only option for their phones. However, the Urgent Low Alarm remains non-negotiable and cannot be turned off, ensuring critical safety measures are always in place.
The Always Sound setting, which is enabled by default, ensures that you receive important Dexcom CGM Alerts even if your phone is set to silent, vibrate, or Do Not Disturb mode. This feature allows you to silence calls and texts while still receiving audible alerts for critical conditions such as the Urgent Low Alarm, Low and High Glucose alerts, Urgent Low Soon Alert, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts. A home screen icon conveniently indicates whether your alerts will sound or not. For safety, the Urgent Low Alarm and three other alerts—Transmitter Failed, Sensor Failed, and App Stopped—cannot be silenced.
Beyond monitoring, the Dexcom G6 offers additional features to enhance user experience. The Share function allows you to send your glucose data to up to ten followers in real time, enabling them to monitor your glucose data and trends on their compatible smart devices via the Dexcom Follow app. This feature, along with Health Connect access for sharing retrospective glucose data with third-party apps, ensures comprehensive support for diabetes management.
The Quick Glance feature provides easy access to your glucose data on your smart device's lock screen, while Wear OS Integration lets you view glucose alerts and alarms directly from your Wear OS watch, offering greater flexibility and convenience.
Please note that the Alert Schedule, Share, Follow, and certain alert features are not available on the Dexcom G6 Pro System.
