MAME4droid, a port of MAME 0.37b5 developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an Android version of the iMAME4all emulator originally created for jailbroken iPhones and iPads. It is based on the GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5 by Franxis and emulates arcade games supported by the original MAME 0.37b5, along with some additional games from newer MAME versions. This emulator supports over 2000 different romsets, but due to the vast number of games, performance may vary. Some games may run smoothly while others might not run at all on MAME4droid.
For users experiencing performance issues, especially those with older devices, consider these tips: lower the sound quality or turn it off, use an 8-bit depth, underclock the CPU and Sound CPUs, and disable stick and buttons animations as well as smooth scaling. To use MAME4droid, place your MAME-titled zipped roms in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms folder after installation. The app is compatible with '0.37b5' and 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset'. You can convert romsets from other MAME versions to those used by MAME4droid using the "clrmame.dat" file found in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ and the ClrMAME Pro utility available at this link.
It's important to note that MAME4droid does not support save states because it is based on a MAME version that lacks this feature.
