How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To begin your romantic journey with Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene will unfold where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave the area, or risk being sealed alongside the scroll. As your health diminishes, Caldarus appears, transforming into his human form, and grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods.
In his human form, Caldarus can now receive gifts and engage in daily conversations, much like other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. To access this area permanently on your map, you must use the Dragon’s Breath spell.
Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus begins his romanceable journey with a heart level of six, which is the current cap in *Fields of Mistria*. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available at this time, but future updates from NPC Studio are expected to expand this.
Currently, you can experience two cutscenes with Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the start of the game, serving as an introduction to the magic system and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after you break the Fire Seal, where Caldarus heroically saves you from being sealed, revealing his human form before retreating to recover his strength in the Deep Woods.
Following the update, you can also embark on a special date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, an in-game event that takes place on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria*, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you're eligible to invite him. To set up your date, gift him a Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him after that time to confirm your attendance. This triggers a cutscene of your romantic evening.
During the date, Caldarus expresses gratitude for your invitation and discusses the stars and the Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. The conversation touches on soul connections and the necessity of villains in stories, hinting at deeper narrative threads. As the evening progresses, Caldarus, feeling fatigued, invites you to continue watching the stars from his temple.
