Sandfall Interactive has deployed Patch 1.2.3 for their acclaimed RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 across all platforms, bringing crucial balance adjustments alongside numerous fixes.
The developer initially planned only bug fixes but reconsidered after one particularly dominant strategy emerged. "We hadn't intended to make balance changes this early," Sandfall explained, "but Stendhal clearly stood out as needing adjustment."
The Infamous Stendhal Build
The now-nerfed strategy revolved around Maelle's Medalum sword and its Virtuose Stance, which granted 200% bonus damage. Players combined this with ability-stacking and Stendhal - a Void damage skill that could deal billions of damage, capable of defeating the final boss instantly.
"We overcorrected during final balancing," admitted Sandfall. "While we still want players to find powerful combinations, Stendhal made it too straightforward."
The patch reduces Stendhal's damage by 40% while fixing Medalum's third Lumina to correctly double only Burn damage rather than all damage types.
Technical Improvements
The update significantly enhances the Steam Deck experience and ultrawide monitor support:
- Fixed menu backgrounds on Steam Deck
- Resolved resolution issues in cutscenes and UI
- Improved mouse/keyboard responsiveness
- Fixed numerous world map collision issues
Continued Success Story
Clair Obscur's impressive performance continues, having surpassed 2 million sales despite launching alongside Bethesda's Oblivion Remastered on Game Pass. The French-developed RPG has even garnered praise from President Macron.
