Dead Space fans are dismayed by the high price of cosplaying as the series' protagonist, Isaac Clarke, in EA's new free-to-play game, Skate, which is currently in early access.
The new Isaac Clarke bundle in Skate includes a homemade, cardboard-style Isaac Clarke costume for your skater, a themed skateboard, the Necro Stomp emote, and a collection of stickers. The bundle costs 3,350 San Van Bucks, Skate's in-game currency.
A pack of 2,800 San Van Bucks costs $25, while a 500 San Van Bucks pack costs $5. Buying these leaves you 50 San Van Bucks short, so you'd need to purchase another 500-pack for $5, bringing the minimum total to $35. (At least a USG Ishimura T-shirt is available for free.)
While Skate is a free-to-play title supported by microtransactions, Dead Space fans have expressed disbelief at the bundle's cost, with many comparing its price to the cost of the franchise's full games.
Currently, the original Dead Space trilogy is available on Steam for $20 per game, though individual titles have dropped as low as $4 during sales. The acclaimed 2023 Dead Space remake is listed at $60 but has been discounted to as little as $12.
Adding to the frustration is the fact that EA has seemingly put the Dead Space franchise on ice for the foreseeable future. Plans for a new Dead Space 4 or a remake of Dead Space 2 appear to be shelved, with developer Motive reassigned to the Battlefield series. Isaac Clarke has been relegated to cameo appearances in other games like Fortnite and Battlefield 2042.

In a Reddit post titled "The state of Dead Space," a user named IllustriousReveal962 wrote: "Let's hope that one day the Dead Space IP will be more than just a skin in a mediocre always-online game designed to sell microtransactions."
"You could buy three Dead Space games with that money (and probably three Skate games)," wrote another fan, Diogo Rodriguez, in a post on X. "Dead Space 2 remake got cancelled and now we get this," added user cayo0663.
On the left is Isaac Clarke from Dead Space in Skate 3. Model looks incredible & could only be obtained through a cheat code.

EA's Dead Space and Skate franchises share a history. A stylish Isaac Clarke skin and a sci-fi skateboard were unlockable for free via a cheat code in Skate 3. The 2023 Dead Space remake also featured an in-game Easter egg for a fictional "Skate 3000." Many fans feel this crossover could have been a positive continuation, but not at such a high price.
