Disney Lorcana has recently unveiled a wealth of exciting updates for fans of the trading card game, setting the stage for an engaging future. The ninth set, aptly named Fabled, is slated for release on September 5, 2025, and promises to introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, along with the much-anticipated inclusion of A Goofy Movie into the game.
Additionally, details on the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, were shared, set to debut on June 6, alongside a new Collection Starter Set and information on the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. There was also a tantalizing tease about the future inclusion of Darkwing Duck.
Let's dive into the details to ensure you're fully updated on what's coming next in the world of Disney Lorcana.
Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play
While we await further details on Fabled, the anticipation for its pre-release on August 29 and wide release on September 5 is palpable. One of the major highlights is the inclusion of cards from A Goofy Movie, though specifics on which cards will be available remain under wraps. However, it has been confirmed that Mickey and Minnie will star in the very first Iconic Cards.
Iconic Cards will be the rarest in Lorcana, with only two featured per set. These will be highly sought after, featuring Mickey and Minnie on a carousel. Alongside them, Epic Cards will be introduced, which are rarer than Legendary cards but not as scarce as Enchanted and Iconic ones. These cards will boast unique artwork and foil treatments, with a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card as an example.
A significant change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation, marking the first time certain cards will be phased out for competitive play. The top-level competitive format, Core Constructed, will not permit the use of cards from the first four sets of Lorcana.

For fans concerned about their older cards becoming obsolete, rest assured that there will be numerous ways to continue playing them, including a new format called Infinity Constructed. Moreover, Fabled will feature reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will be fully legal in competitive play.
Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, emphasized the importance of card rotation: "To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!"
For those new to Lorcana, a new Collection Starter Set has been announced, offering a perfect entry point into the game. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, one card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and one collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure
As previously mentioned, Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, will be available in pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6. Continuing the saga of Disney villainy, Reign of Jafar will feature Jafar wielding the Hexwell Crown to corrupt Archazia’s Island. Players will encounter traps and illusions, with characters like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber teaming up to reclaim the crown and defeat Jafar.

Alongside Reign of Jafar, fans can look forward to Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new cooperative experience allowing four players to tackle Jafar and his minions. The set will introduce new cards like Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), and many others.
Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
At the end of the presentation, Disney teased the set following Fabled, named Whispers in the Well, set to arrive in Q4 2025. Although details are sparse, key art suggests the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and potentially Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer.
Looking further ahead, fans' wishes were answered with the confirmation that Darkwing Duck will join the game in 2026.
Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship
The competitive scene in Lorcana is set to intensify with the Disney Lorcana World Championship, taking place on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This major tournament will crown the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion, with players from around the globe vying for the title.
For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, featuring casters such as Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest). Additionally, there will be an opportunity to obtain a non-foil 'A Whole New World' promo card, with more details to follow.
