Dynasty Warriors: Origins doesn't have a dedicated sprint button; your character automatically sprints after a few running steps. While sprinting is useful, traversing large battlefields to rescue officers quickly often requires a mount. Your horse is summonable at any time, in both the overworld and during battles, even allowing for mounted combat if you prefer a hit-and-run approach. Here's how to acquire your first steed, level it up, and switch between different horses.
How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your journey begins in Chapter 1. After completing the "Test of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll find him northeast of Wan Castle, before reaching the camp. He's easily spotted standing beside his horse. Simply speak to him, and he'll gift you your first mount, automatically equipping it. Summon your horse by pressing down on the left joystick (console) or V (keyboard).
How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your horse gains XP based on completed missions, even if you don't actively ride it. Main story battles and missions (marked with a red diamond containing a soldier icon) award XP; skirmishes do not. The XP earned depends on battle length and your horse usage, including charging into enemies. Each level-up grants unique buffs, varying between horses.
How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
While your first horse is automatically equipped, you can acquire and equip others. Access the Battle Preparation menu; the horse selection is the last option on the left. Each horse boasts different perks and varying speeds, making switching a strategic advantage. New horses are unlocked by maximizing the peace level of a region. A new mount will then be available at a nearby waypoint.
