Exoloper: Heavy Metal Action Lands on Mobile

If there's one genre I believe is sorely underrepresented on mobile, it's intense mech combat. It's a specific niche, but titles like MechWarrior hold a special place for gamers, both in digital and tabletop forms. Unfortunately, dedicated single-player mech simulators have been scarce—until now.

Exoloper, which we first covered back in October, places you directly in the cockpit of your own personalized mech. This isn't a top-down strategy game; it's pure, first-person, one-on-one heavy metal warfare. If you've been yearning for a MechWarrior-style experience on your mobile device, this might be exactly what you're looking for.

It's worth noting that Exoloper comes from Anchorite Games, the studio behind the distinct space combat simulator Interloper—another favorite of ours in a specialized genre. Exoloper is scheduled to launch on app stores on February 10th, so you won't have to wait long to see if it meets their high standards.

The mech battle genre remains notoriously niche. While MechWarrior peaked in popularity during the late '90s and early 2000s, the field has since been quiet, with only a few notable releases like MechWarrior 5 and the recent Clans. That's why it's so surprising to see a spiritual successor emerge on iOS. Although it may not offer the same depth of simulation as classic MechWarrior titles, it appears to deliver a deeply immersive experience nonetheless.
