Fast XP and Leveling in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Tips

by Eleanor Apr 17,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* offers a rich array of skills for players to unlock and master. To level up your Samurai and Shinobi characters quickly, you'll want to maximize your XP earnings. Here's how you can do that effectively.

What Awards XP in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you can earn XP through a variety of actions and activities. From killing enemies and assassinating targets to completing quests and engaging with side content, each action contributes to your XP gains. However, the XP rewards vary, so prioritizing certain activities can help you level up faster. You can see the potential XP reward for any quest or activity by hovering over it in the map or objectives tab. The most efficient ways to earn XP quickly are by tackling castles and undertaking optional assassinations.

How to Get Fast XP from Castles in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Sakamato Castle awards 3,000 XP in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, Japan is dotted with castles, each heavily guarded by basic and elite enemies, along with Samurai Daisho you must eliminate. Upon killing the required number of Daisho, you can access the castle's chest, which contains high-tier loot. Castles are a prime source of XP, offering thousands of XP upon completion, plus additional XP from defeating each enemy, especially elites and Daisho, who can reward around 250 XP each. Additionally, synchronizing at high points within these castles not only grants a few hundred XP but also serves as fast travel points, enhancing your gameplay flexibility.

To maximize XP from castles, consider these strategies:

  • Choose your protagonist wisely. Naoe's Eagle's Vision ability helps in quickly locating and tagging Samurai Daisho for stealthy assassinations. Enhance Naoe's assassination damage through mastery and engravings to ensure instant kills.
  • At lower levels, Yasuke can be more effective. Deliberately trigger the castle's alarm to draw enemies to you for quicker combat and XP accumulation.

With these tactics, you could potentially earn up to and beyond 4,000 XP in just a few minutes at each castle.

Assassinating Targets Nets Large XP Bonuses in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Engage with specific NPCs to uncover these quest chains and use scouts to pinpoint target locations. With fast travel points like Kakurega strategically placed on the map, you can quickly reach your targets. After a short ride on your mount, execute the assassination for a swift XP boost.

Each assassination grants an XP bonus for completing a quest, typically ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 XP, plus additional XP for the kill itself, similar to defeating elite enemies. Completing all assassinations in a group and returning to the quest giver will net you a significant XP bonus, usually around 5,000 XP.
