In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll come across a variety of fierce and memorable beasts, but none quite as unique as Rompopolo. If you're looking to tackle this intriguing Brute Wyvern, here's a comprehensive guide on how to defeat and capture it.

Rompopolo, a Brute Wyvern-type monster, makes its first appearance in Chapter 2 during Mission 2-1: Toward Fervent Fields. You'll encounter it in the Oilwell Basin region on your way to Azuz City, and defeating it is essential to proceed further in the game.
Once you've defeated Rompopolo at least once, its entry will be added to your Large Monster Field Guide. You can then engage with it repeatedly, either by exploring the Oilwell Basin or by starting the "Oilwell Basin Blast" Optional Quest from your Tent.

To maximize your chances against Rompopolo, arm yourself with water-element weapons, which you can obtain from Uth Duna in the Scarlet Forest. Additionally, equip gear with fire resistance, which can be farmed from Uth Duna or Ajarakan later in the chapter. Consider crafting a fire-resistance Talisman like the Fire Charm I, or a Defense Charm I for general protection. Before the battle, enhance your health and stamina by grilling a meal.
Rompopolo Attacks and Weaknesses

Rompopolo's unique physiology includes saggy skin that inflates with gas, enabling it to perform explosive attacks. It can also inflict poison, so carry Antidotes and rely on your Palico to help with ailment cleansing. Here are the main attacks to watch out for:
- Arm Swipe – Rompopolo uses its clawed arms to swipe forward twice. Easy to dodge due to limited range.
- Lunge With Arm Swipe – Charges forward while raising both arms to perform an arcing swipe.
- Tail Swing – Swings its tail at the target.
- Poison Stream or Swipe – Sprays a stream of poison gas or charges while swinging its head and spraying poison.
- Oil Explosion – Uses its tail stinger to inject gas into oil pools, causing explosions. Dodge to avoid.
- Charged Oil Explosion – Later in the fight, pumps more gas into the oil for a larger explosion. Dodge to minimize damage.
Should You Kill or Capture Rompopolo?

As with previous *Monster Hunter* games, you have the choice to capture or kill Rompopolo near the end of the battle. To capture, weaken Rompopolo until your Palico notes it looks "tired," then use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps to ensnare it. Follow up with a Tranq Bomb to complete the capture.
Both methods yield rewards, though the items you receive might vary. Capturing may yield certain items that killing does not, and vice versa. Below are the potential item drops from Rompopolo:
