"Guide to Earning the Shooting Star Trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds"

by Daniel Apr 03,2025

While the thrill of *Monster Hunter Wilds* often comes from tackling the game's most formidable beasts, there's a unique achievement that shifts the focus to the smallest of creatures. Unlocking the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement involves capturing a tiny yet elusive creature known as the Sandstar. Here's your comprehensive guide on how to achieve this in *Monster Hunter Wilds*.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement is intriguing for its simplicity and elusiveness. It's easy to overlook if you're not specifically looking for it. To unlock this achievement, you must capture the Sandstar, a unique endemic life found in the **Windward Plains**. This tiny creature looks like a desert mouse with a long tail and shimmering fur, but it only appears at night in a specific area.

Since the Windward Plains are typically explored during the day throughout the game's story, you'll need to manipulate the time to reach nightfall. Here are two methods to achieve this:

  • **Fast Travel** – Early in the game, once you unlock different fast travel points in the Windward Plains, you can use this method. Open your interactive map, access the fast travel menu, and travel back and forth between points until nightfall.
  • **Rest** – After completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content, you can rest at a base or pop-up camp. Use your Guild Points to rest and choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only small but also remarkably swift, even when you're at full sprint on your Seikret. To increase your chances of capturing it, consider gathering **Screamer Pods** from **Baunos**, small winged monsters with red bodies found in the Windward Plains. These creatures roam in groups around **Area 11** and **Area 13**, scavenging for carcasses. While not mandatory, Screamer Pods will significantly ease the capture process.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the midpoint between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep a keen eye out for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it at full speed and be ready with your Screamer Pods. When you're close enough, **shoot a Screamer Pod at the Sandstar to stun it**. Quickly switch to your **Capture Net** (used also for fishing) and throw it at the Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll receive the **Ribbon Dream: Amber** nameplate for your Hunter Profile.

That's how you unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and guides, check out our other content, including how to skip cutscenes.
