Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Opening Weekend Triumph
250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has shattered expectations by reaching over 250,000 concurrent players on Steam as of February 9, 2025. Creative Director Daniel Vávra proudly announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the game hit a peak of 256,206 concurrent players. Since its launch, KCD2 has consistently broken its own player record each day:
- February 4: 159,351 concurrent Steam players
- February 5: 176,285 concurrent Steam players
- February 6: 185,582 concurrent Steam players
- February 7: 190,194 concurrent Steam players
- February 8: 233,586 concurrent Steam players
- February 9: 256,206 concurrent Steam players
Reports suggest that KCD2 has sold approximately 890,000 copies on Steam alone, making it the second top-selling game on the platform, just behind Counter-Strike 2. It also ranks as the fifth most-played game, trailing CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana. With over 1 million copies sold at launch, KCD2 is on track to reach 2 million sales soon.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Attention to Detail
The success of KCD2's opening weekend can be attributed to Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail, which enhances player immersion and enjoyment. Building on the series' reputation for realism, KCD2 introduces new features that transport players back to a 15th-century medieval setting.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a unique stealth mechanic involving player hygiene. He explained, "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you. Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here." Additionally, KCD2 introduces "handgonnes," early firearms that, as Bittner told PC Gamer, were challenging to use, had long reload times, and were notoriously inaccurate and unsafe. Despite these challenges, Bittner noted, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized the studio's commitment to authenticity over hyperaccuracy, stating, "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible."
Post-Launch Roadmap
To maintain player engagement post-launch, Warhorse Studios has outlined a comprehensive roadmap for 2025. KCD2 will offer free updates and paid DLC content throughout the year.
Free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing, expected to launch in Spring 2025. Paid DLCs will roll out starting in Summer with "Brushes with Death," followed by "Legacy of the Forge" in Autumn, and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" in Winter.
With such a robust plan for future content, KCD2 is poised to continue its commercial success and potentially set new records.
