by Isaac Apr 07,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, your journey to feudal Japan isn't just about eliminating targets as a samurai or a shinobi. To earn the A Rare Occurrence trophy and achievement, you'll need to complete all the legendary Sumi-E paintings. This guide will help you navigate through this artistic challenge.

Legendary Sumi-E are special ancient paintings of animals that you can create with either Naoe or Yasuke while exploring the wilds. When you're close to one, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these, you need to crouch and sneak up on the animal. Once you're near, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, unlike regular Sumi-E, the legendary ones don't show up on the map, making them trickier to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, and their availability depends on the season.

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during the summer, specifically during the day. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, near the Shigaraki Hamlet. You'll know you're in the right spot when you see Tanuki statues around you. Follow the path upwards to a clearing where you'll find the legendary Tanuki. Take your time to approach and complete the drawing.

Dismount at a distance, walk to the marked area, and slowly crouch towards the target to complete the Sumi-E.

Keep in mind that even if you're in the right place at the right time, the animals might not always spawn. If this happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if your luck changes. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection.
