Marvel Rivals Reveals How Often Fans Can Expect New Heroes

Marvel Rivals: An Ambitious Hero Release Schedule

Marvel Rivals, NetEase's hit third-person hero shooter, launched in December 2024 with 33 playable heroes and has already amassed a remarkable 20 million players in its first month. The game's ambitious plan? Adding a new hero approximately every 45 days, resulting in a total of eight new heroes annually. This significantly surpasses the yearly hero additions of competitors like Overwatch 2.

Season 1 is currently underway, showcasing this rapid release schedule. The Fantastic Four are the first post-launch additions, with Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman already available, and The Thing and Human Torch anticipated later in the season. Two new New York City maps further enhance the gameplay experience.

Game Director Guangyun Chen confirmed the aggressive release strategy in an interview with Metro, outlining a new hero release for each half of the game's three-month seasons. While NetEase has a vast roster of Marvel characters to choose from, including lesser-known heroes, concerns remain about the feasibility of such a rapid development and testing cycle. Balancing new heroes against 37 existing heroes and approximately 100 abilities presents a significant challenge. The potential for running out of innovative abilities is also a factor. Unless NetEase has a substantial reserve of pre-developed heroes, maintaining this pace seems daunting to many players.

With the second half of Season 1 approaching, players eagerly await the remaining Fantastic Four members. Further additions, such as new maps or in-game events, are also anticipated. Keep an eye on Marvel Rivals' social media for the latest updates.
