Microsoft Unveils and Retracts Xbox UI Mockup with Steam Games Tab

by Joseph May 12,2025

Microsoft has inadvertently revealed a potential new feature for Xbox through a leaked UI update, which showcases a tab for Steam integration. This surprising detail was spotted in an image accompanying a blog post titled "Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox," where screens of various devices displayed the "Steam" label. Although the image was quickly removed from the post, it hints at Microsoft's ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between Xbox and PC gaming ecosystems.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is reportedly developing a UI update that would allow Xbox players to view all their installed PC games across multiple storefronts, including Steam and the Epic Games Store. While this feature is still in the early stages of development, it suggests a future where Xbox hardware could become a more versatile platform, integrating various PC gaming libraries.

The inclusion of Steam in an Xbox UI mockup underscores Microsoft's strategic shift towards a more inclusive gaming ecosystem. Over the past decade, Microsoft has increasingly released its titles on PC and other platforms, such as Pentiment and Grounded on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Rumors also suggest that the Master Chief Collection might soon be available on PlayStation.

Microsoft's efforts to blend Xbox and PC gaming experiences have been evident in recent initiatives like the "This is an Xbox" campaign, which highlights the diverse devices on which players can enjoy Xbox games. In an interview with Polygon, Xbox head Phil Spencer expressed interest in integrating PC stores like Itch.io and the Epic Games Store into Xbox hardware.

Looking ahead, Microsoft's next-generation Xbox, expected in 2027, is rumored to be more akin to a PC than any previous Xbox console. This evolution aligns with the company's vision of creating a seamless gaming experience across different platforms and devices.
