MultiVersus Closing Doors: Season 5 Ends May 30th

by Lucy Feb 21,2025

Player First Games announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. The game's final season, Season 5, will launch on February 4th, 2025, and conclude on May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement was made via a blog post on the studio's website.

Online play will cease on May 30th, but offline access to all earned and purchased content will remain available through local and training modes. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support.

It's been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post https://t.co/tLVzpA9JaQ and FAQ https://t.co/XKuxAnd26j. pic.twitter.com/VLzBDbP0GQ

Real-money transactions have already ended, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used to acquire in-game content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million writedown for the company's games sector. This financial setback, coupled with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad, contributed to a challenging year for the company.

Despite the game's impending closure, Season 5 will introduce new content, including playable characters Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar rewards) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass). Both characters will be available starting next week.
