Nintendo has unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, an innovative digital game set to launch alongside the highly anticipated Switch 2 console. This unique offering isn't a complimentary pack-in, but rather a standalone, paid digital experience available on the Nintendo eShop from day one of the Switch 2's release.
Showcased during the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the Welcome Tour serves as a "virtual exhibition" designed to familiarize players with the new hardware's features. According to Nintendo, "through tech demos, minigames, and other interactions, players will get to know the new system inside and out in ways they may never have known about otherwise." The presentation featured a small player avatar navigating a larger-than-life Switch 2, exploring various functionalities and engaging in interactive minigames such as Speed Golf, Dodge the Spiked Balls, and a Maracas Physics Demo. This virtual museum-like experience aims to educate and entertain simultaneously.
In their stream and press release, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 Welcome Tour will be available for purchase on the launch day of the Switch 2. While the concept is intriguing, the decision to offer it as a paid digital game rather than a free pack-in has sparked curiosity among fans. As of now, no specific pricing has been disclosed.
The Switch 2's launch lineup also includes exciting titles such as Mario Kart World, Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and Deltarune Chapters 1 through 4. Given the competition for consumer spending at launch, the Welcome Tour's value proposition will be closely watched.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for release on June 5, 2025, priced at $449.99 USD, with a bundle option including Mario Kart World for $499.99.
