Survival of the Fittest stands out as one of the toughest challenges in Phasmophobia to date, stripping players of essential tools and sanity. The challenge requires you to accurately identify the ghost without relying on traditional evidence or any sanity protection.
You'll need to tackle this challenge at 42 Edgefield Road, a house-style map known for its tight spaces, blind corners, and claustrophobic feel, making ghost tracking and evasion particularly challenging.
Tips & Tricks To Complete Survival of the Fittest in Phasmophobia
Upon arriving at the location, you'll face several unique constraints. You won't have access to typical evidence-gathering tools like Ghost Writing Books, DOTs Projectors, or even Video Cameras.

Instead, you'll need to rely on observing the ghost’s unique behaviors, movement speed, and ghost model. The provided equipment, such as the Parabolic Microphone, can help you detect specific ghost sounds like the Banshee's scream or the Myling's frequent noises. Using Salt can reveal if you're dealing with a Wraith, and lighting three Firelights in succession might expose an Onyro. If you're struggling to identify the ghost, refer to our detailed No Evidence ghost behavior cheat sheet.

You begin the challenge with virtually no setup time and zero sanity, making you instantly vulnerable to ghost hunts. Sanity cannot be restored, not even with the provided Sanity Medications, so you'll need to navigate this investigation under extreme conditions.
Despite the lack of traditional evidence tools, the ghost will remain highly active, and events will occur frequently. These conditions, while frightening, can aid in observing the ghost's unique behaviors. The ghost can roam, but its favorite room remains constant, which is crucial to remember.
Most doors will be partially open, complicating ghost location detection. However, the fuse box will be functional and turned on, which is a rare advantage. All nine hiding spots at 42 Edgefield Road will be available, offering ample opportunities for safety during hunts.

For this challenge, you're equipped with the Monkey Paw as your Cursed Possession. Using it to "wish for knowledge" can burn out incorrect evidence and ghost types in your Journal, narrowing down your options. However, this wish comes at a high cost: temporary blindness and deafness, followed by a Cursed Hunt starting near you. This strategy is better suited for groups, where one player can act as a decoy without compromising the entire investigation.

To access Challenge Mode, navigate to the Difficulty Settings in the Main Menu. Choose either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to start a new lobby, then select the Difficulty tab above your character ID. Scroll to find Challenge Mode and select 'Apply'. Remember to manually choose 42 Edgefield Road from the Maps board to your left, as Challenge Mode won't automatically set the location.
To earn the full $5,000 reward, you must successfully complete the same investigation three times, correctly identifying the ghost each time.
