by Camila May 12,2025

If you're looking to snag a PlayStation Portal without breaking the bank, now's your chance. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, is currently offering Used: Like New condition PS Portals for just $148, including shipping. These units typically retail at $199 new, meaning you can save a substantial 26% on this deal. While a Sony warranty may or may not be included, rest assured that Amazon Resale items come with the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given the popularity of this offer, we expect these to sell out quickly.

Update: The price has now dropped to $150.23, marking the lowest price we've seen for a Used: Like New unit.

The PS Portal, Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory for the PS5 console, resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled in the middle. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming powerhouse by streaming games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller boasts the same features as the DualSense, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface that replaces the DualSense's touchpad. The Portal can even stream your games when you're away from home, provided you have a very stable, very fast internet connection. Remember, the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it's strictly a remote player for the PlayStation 5, so a PS5 is essential for its operation.

Excitingly, you no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has rolled out a feature allowing owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. No PS5 required! Portal owners can connect either to their PS5 or directly to Sony's cloud servers, thanks to some new quality of life beta updates launched in April. Opt for the cloud option, and you'll unlock a library of over 120 games, including hits like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Note that you must subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which at $18 a month is a far more wallet-friendly option than purchasing a $500 console plus additional game costs.

While the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream your PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home, it's certainly the most straightforward. You could use the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device or other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck, but setting it up can be more complicated, and you'll miss out on some of the DualSense's features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy:

"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device I've ever come away from loving after initially approaching it with skepticism. It offers a significantly better experience than using your phone with a slap-on controller and performs far better than I expected. I truly appreciate the freedom it gives me to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage, particularly when my family is using the TV to play the Switch. However, remember that it’s not a standalone device and 100% requires a PlayStation 5 to function. The biggest hurdles keeping the Portal from being a truly amazing device are its current inability to access WiFi that requires a web browser to log in, and its lack of Bluetooth support for audio. Despite these caveats, it's a fantastic device that represents the best current solution for PlayStation Remote Play. If it weren't for these two issues, I'd consider it a must-own for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or has to compete for the household TV."
