Pokémon In-Game Characters Disturb Player in Humorous Gameplay Footage

A Pokémon player's popularity has reached absurd levels, thanks to two persistent NPCs who won't stop calling. A short video shows the player trapped, bombarded with incessant phone calls.

Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced the feature of receiving calls from certain NPCs after battles. These calls can range from friendly check-ins to story updates or rematch offers. But this player's game is experiencing a glitch, stuck in an endless loop of calls from two particularly enthusiastic trainers.

Pokémon enthusiast FodderWadder shared a video showing them cornered in a Pokémon Center. The video begins with a call from Wade the Bug Catcher, recounting his Caterpie training and a Pidgey encounter. Before the player can react, Youngster Joey calls, requesting a rematch on Route 30.

The relentless calls continue. After ending Joey's call, it immediately rings again—Joey repeating his previous message. Then, Wade calls back, seemingly with the same message.

The cause of this call-bombardment remains unclear. While Youngster Joey and the call system in Pokémon Gold and Silver are known for repetitive calls, this is extreme. FodderWadder suspects a save file glitch. Other players found the situation humorous, suggesting the NPCs were simply eager for conversation.

Although players can delete phone numbers, the game automatically answers calls. FodderWadder eventually escaped the deluge, but the process proved challenging. Finding a moment between calls to access the menu, delete the numbers, and leave the Pokémon Center required considerable effort. This experience has understandably made them hesitant to register new numbers, fearing a repeat of the endless call loop.
