PSA: Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Not Available for Game Redemptions via PS Plus

by Chloe Apr 22,2025

Days Gone Remastered made waves at Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, but it's not all sunshine and rainbows for PlayStation Plus subscribers due to the $10 upgrade fee. Sony has made it clear that this discounted upgrade to the PS5 version is exclusively for those who already own the PS4 disc or digital copy of Days Gone. Unfortunately, if you snagged the game through the PS Plus service, whether from the now-discontinued PS Plus Collection or as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, you won't qualify for this deal. Instead, you'll need to cough up the full $49.99 to experience the remastered version on PS5.

This decision has sparked a wave of frustration among PS Plus subscribers, leading to heated discussions online. On the PlayStation Plus subreddit, for instance, numerous subscribers have voiced their disappointment. Many have stated they'd be willing to pay the $10 to upgrade to the PS5 remaster, but are unwilling to pay full price, leading them to consider skipping the game altogether.

Comments from the community highlight the sentiment. User squarejellyfish_ remarked, "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two." Similarly, teckn9ne79 stated, "They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way. I will stick with the one I got." Dredizzle99 added, "There's no way I'm paying full price for this, but I'd happily pay for the upgrade at least just to check it out. Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them." Jackanyon95 expressed frustration, saying, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base. I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."

While some PS Plus subscribers are vocal about their dissatisfaction, others aren't surprised by Sony's approach, suggesting that the company likely conducted financial analyses to determine this strategy would be the most profitable. Nonetheless, Sony is facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who are labeling the move as "stingy" and had hoped for a more generous offering from PlayStation.

Days Gone Remastered was just one of several announcements at the State of Play. For a comprehensive look at all the reveals, be sure to check out IGN’s State of Play February 2025 roundup.
