A former employee of Respawn Entertainment revealed on LinkedIn that the studio has halted the development of a new game this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was abruptly stopped without any public explanation for the decision.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that this project was not a direct sequel to the Titanfall series, specifically not Titanfall 3. Respawn had assembled an "experimental team" dedicated to this project, specifically recruiting experts in multiplayer shooter development.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project; they previously discontinued an arcade shooter known internally as Titanfall Legends last year.
The Titanfall series, launched in 2014, has captivated gamers with its unique mix of fast-paced action and mech piloting. Players can choose to fight as agile pilots or command powerful Titans, engaging in thrilling parkour and dynamic team battles that have defined the franchise's appeal.
Currently, Respawn is channeling its efforts into the development of the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series and a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe, developed in partnership with Bit Reactor.
