Sony Removes PS3 Classics Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 from PS5 and PS4 Libraries

by Sadie May 17,2025

Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see the removal of 22 games from their library, including heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This change will take effect on May 20, 2025.

PlayStation Plus offers an extensive range of benefits for PlayStation users, including monthly free games, time-limited trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. For Extra and Premium members, the service also provides access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.

As reported by Push Square, the upcoming removal includes two significant first-party Sony PS3 games from the PS Plus Premium library. Notably, both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 are being pulled less than a year after their inclusion in the library at the end of 2024. These titles are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store, making the PS Plus Premium streaming service the final venue for playing them on modern consoles.

The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac, offers an alternate history first-person shooter experience. Following the success of their Ratchet and Clank series, Insomniac created three Resistance games for the PS3. However, plans for a fourth installment, Resistance 4, never materialized, as confirmed by Insomniac founder Ted Price in February.

While it's rare for Sony to remove first-party games from their service, it's not unprecedented. The removal of both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West in August 2024 shocked many, though those titles remained available for purchase. In contrast, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles after their removal from PS Plus.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the more recent first-party PS4 game, InFamous: Second Son, will also be removed.

The Insomniac-developed Resistance series has been on hiatus, with other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games taking precedence. Similarly, other first-party series like Guerrilla's Killzone have also seen reduced activity.
