Should You Give the Splinter of Eothas Relic to Sargamis in Avowed?

by Bella Apr 09,2025

In *Avowed*, one of the earliest and most impactful decisions you'll face is whether to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas. This choice can lead to a variety of outcomes, ranging from bad to worse, with a few that are actually quite favorable. This guide will walk you through what happens if you decide to give Sargamis Eothas' Splinter.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

When you speak with Sargamis, it becomes clear that refusing to give him the splinter will lead to dire consequences. True to his word, if you choose not to hand over the splinter, Sargamis will engage you in combat. *Avowed* presents him as an optional boss, complete with a distinctive name and a robust health bar, making this one of the more challenging fights early in the game.

In battle, Sargamis calls upon two spirit creatures to assist him, though these spirits primarily focus on attacking Kai rather than you. He also employs thrusting sword attacks that allow him to close distances quickly. However, he is susceptible to freezing, so consider using ice spells to slow him down and gain an advantage.

Defeating Sargamis rewards you with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique-class weapon with enchantments that restore three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy and add a ten percent bonus fire damage to your attacks.

What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Once you agree to give Sargamis the Splinter, you have several paths to consider. Technically, you have three options: you can change your mind and trigger an attack from Sargamis, persuade him to sacrifice himself to the statue, or offer yourself to the statue.

If you persuade Sargamis to enter the statue, he will do so, resulting in his death, and you will receive the Last Light of Day mace. Alternatively, if you choose to stand in the circle as directed by Sargamis and wait for him to activate the machine, you will die but earn the "Get In The Statue, Envoy" achievement. Reloading *Avowed* will bring you back to the point before you entered the circle.

Should you decide to leave the circle when Sargamis instructs you to stand still, he will become enraged and attack you.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

The most beneficial approach to handling the Splinter of Eothas is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher to unlock these dialogue options. If you need to adjust your stats, refer to our *Avowed* respec guide. Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking with Sargamis, activate the machine, and then discuss the failed attempt with him. Persuade him that his plan won't succeed, and he will abandon it.

To start this path, consider selecting the Court Augur or Arcane Scholar background options, though other backgrounds may offer similar choices. Guide Sargamis to understand that Eothas is gone, but avoid the intellect option about live soul transfer.

After Sargamis leaves, you can decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters and speak with him to complete this segment of the Dawntreader quest, earning more experience than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.

This guide covers the decision of whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in *Avowed*. If you're new to Obsidian's latest RPG, check out our *Avowed* beginner's guide for essential tips.
