Suikoden's latest venture into mobile gaming, Suikoden STAR LEAP, aims to deliver a console-quality experience. In an interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the developers behind Star Leap shared their vision for the game.

Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained the decision to focus on mobile, stating, "Our goal was to make Suikoden accessible to as many people as possible. Mobile platforms offer the easiest way to play, and we wanted to ensure that the essence of Suikoden remains intact. That's why we're challenging ourselves to create a mainline entry in the series."

The team's objective is to blend the high-quality visuals, sound, and storytelling of console games with the convenience of mobile gaming.

Fujimatsu emphasized the unique aspects of Suikoden, saying, "The series is known for its war themes intertwined with stories of friendship. In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to convey the narrative of the new 108 stars."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan highlighted the series' characteristic blend of light-hearted camaraderie and serious moments. He added, "The fast-paced battles and the cooperative nature of many characters fighting together are hallmarks of Suikoden."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap is designed to serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through different eras of the Suikoden universe. It will introduce a fresh chapter in the series' lore, starting two years before the events of the original Suikoden and spanning across various timelines, connecting to Suikoden 1 through 5.

Fujimatsu expressed enthusiasm about the game's quality, saying, "We've crafted Star Leap to be accessible and engaging for newcomers as well as long-time fans. We hope it serves as an excellent entry point into the 'Suikoden Genso' universe."

Meng Shan echoed this, emphasizing the team's dedication to upholding the series' legacy: "As one of Japan's premier RPG series, we've focused on every aspect—from the story and graphics to the battle and training systems—to ensure Star Leap lives up to the Suikoden name. We eagerly await your feedback upon release."

Suikoden STAR LEAP was unveiled during the Suikoden Live broadcast on March 4, 2025, alongside other exciting projects in the series. The game is in development for iOS and Android platforms, with no specific release date announced yet.
