SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Emio: The Smiling Man’, ‘Gundam Breaker 4’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

by Mila Jan 07,2025

Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update brings a bumper crop of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a solid selection of new sales. Let's dive into the games!

New Game Highlights

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a lengthy hiatus! This new entry stays true to its predecessors, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery awaits, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial murder case? My full review is coming soon.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail’s comprehensive review provides a detailed look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas! While the Switch version naturally lags behind other platforms, it's still a satisfying experience. Read Mikhail’s insightful review for the full scoop.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes/re-imaginings. Following successful revivals of 16-bit classics, they now tackle an 8-bit title. Expect a more significant departure from the original than in their previous work. Fans of classic-style action-platformers should find much to enjoy. My review drops early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel with a twist! This is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter, a departure from its predecessor. While the genre shift might surprise some, it offers a rewarding experience for those open to the change. Another review in the works!

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by this one. Stunning food imagery is abundant, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Photography? Secret-finding? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on this intriguing title.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts, this game delivers. Featuring both local and online multiplayer, plus numerous game modes. While reception on other platforms was mixed, it might be the only option for dedicated fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

A potential remake of the original WitchSpring, this installment boasts the series' best visuals yet. While the price point approaches that of a full-fledged Atelier game, fans of the series may still find it appealing.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Unravel the mystery of your missing crew in a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved, naturally. This well-received title is sure to find a dedicated following on Switch.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

A farming sim with a unique twist: a vegan vampire! Voltaire rebels against his father by embracing a plant-based lifestyle. Expect farming and action as you defend your choices.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A classic marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Secrets and challenges await those seeking the rarest marbles.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions. A more lighthearted take on the genre.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is fun, the Switch version suffers from technical issues.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A lesser-known Konami vertical shooter from 1985. You play as a transforming robot hero.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack featuring the debut of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A horror/survival/roguelite game best experienced with online multiplayer (up to 10 players).

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you're a sentient tin can battling worms.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two modern NES-style microgames featuring ninja action.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A fun dice-based puzzle game with two modes of play.
