TownsFolk adds new mechanics, structures, and compendium in major content update

by Madison May 18,2025

Short Circuit Studio has just released a new update for their recently launched settlement builder game, TownsFolk. Dubbed "Shadows and Fortune," this update introduces a darker, more engaging tone to the already charming pixel-art adventure.

The update doesn't shy away from adding depth to the existing gameplay, bringing in new buildings and challenges that significantly enhance the experience. Players will now encounter roaming Barbarians that add an element of tension to both campaign missions and Skirmish mode. Additionally, eight new structures have been introduced: the Altar, the Town Square, the Blacksmith, the Aqueduct, the Bank, the Granary, the Factory, and the Terraformer.

Water tiles have also received an exciting update with the addition of the rare Whale, adding a new layer of exploration and intrigue. The unpredictability of the game is further increased with the introduction of Special Locations, including ancient Obelisks and new Shipwrecks.

To help players navigate the expanded world, a new Compendium has been added, serving as an in-game encyclopedia. The Exploration System has been reworked, and players can now adjust Campaign Difficulties between Frontier and Survival modes, tailoring the challenge to their preference.

"Metro Quester: Kemco's Unique New Release"

Whenever I write about Kemco, I find it both invariably welcome and fairly predictable.
