The Witcher 4 won't be hitting shelves in 2026, according to developer CD Projekt. Here's everything we know about the game's current development status and future plans.
Witcher 4 Release Confirmed Not Before 2027
No Set Release Timeline Available

Fans eagerly awaiting the next Witcher installment will need to exercise patience, as CD Projekt Red confirmed the game won't launch within the next two years. During their FY2024 earnings call, the studio discussed financial targets tied to incentive programs while noting: "While we don't anticipate releasing The Witcher 4 before 2027, these financial goals remain our priority."
When pressed for details during the Q&A session, executives remained coy about specific timing. CFO Piotr Nielubowicz clarified: "We're not ready to announce a concrete launch date. For investor transparency, we can confirm it won't release during our current incentive program period ending December 2026."
Development Going Strong

Despite the delayed timeline, work continues at full pace on the highly anticipated sequel. Last year's Q3 financial report confirmed the project (codenamed Polaris) had entered full production. Nielubowicz noted: "Among our ongoing projects, this is the most advanced. We're entering the most intensive development phase and appreciate our team's dedication to pushing the game forward."
Originally revealed as Project Polaris in 2022, the game received its official title during The Game Awards 2024. The surprise six-minute cinematic trailer confirmed Geralt of Rivia's retirement, introducing an older, battle-hardened Ciri as the new protagonist following in her adoptive father's footsteps.

CD Projekt's October 2022 social media announcements positioned this as the first entry in a new Witcher trilogy. Two companion projects (currently called Canis Majoris and Orion) are planned to follow within six years of The Witcher 4's eventual release.
