The objective of Tute is to be the first player or team to reach a predetermined number of points. Players use a traditional Spanish deck, which consists of forty cards. The card hierarchy, ranked from highest to lowest, is as follows: Ace (valued at 11 points), 3 (10 points), King (4 points), Knight (3 points), Jack (2 points), and then 7, 6, 5, 4, and 2 (the latter being white cards with no value).
The gameplay begins with the first card played setting the suit for the round. Players must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card, including trump cards. The trump suit's highest card always wins the trick, but if no trump cards are played, the trick is awarded to the highest card of the leading suit.
