VNeID: Electronic Identification and Authentication Application
The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, leverages population data for identification and electronic authentication purposes. It is designed for individuals residing in or visiting Vietnam.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Digital Replacement for Traditional Documents: VNeID serves as a digital alternative to physical identification papers, facilitating the growth of digital citizenship, government, and society.
- Health and Travel Declarations: The application simplifies medical and domestic travel declarations, enhancing efficiency and convenience.
- COVID-19 Management: VNeID assists in tracing secondary COVID-19 infections and timely notification to affected individuals, contributing significantly to public health management.
Access and Permissions:
By using VNeID, users grant the application access to the following device functions:
- Internet Access: Necessary for the application to function online.
- Camera Access: Used for scanning QR codes on Citizen Identification Cards (CCCD) to expedite entry of basic information and for scanning QR codes at checkpoints for quick travel and medical declarations.
- Media and File Access: Allows the application to store QR code images for verification at citizen checkpoints.
- Notification Permissions: Enables the application to send alerts to the user's device.
Personal Information Collection:
Users input their data, including medical and travel information, either for themselves or on behalf of others with their consent. The collected personal information includes:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Citizen identification
- Gender
- Year of birth
- Permanent address
- Nationality
- Health status
- Place of departure and destination
- Vehicle number plate
- Exposure to individuals with COVID-19
All data is collected with the user's explicit permission through form submissions.
User Responsibility:
Users are solely responsible for their actions and the accuracy of the information they provide within the application.
Privacy and Copyright Protection:
The National Population Data Center, Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and protects user data. This information is used exclusively for COVID-19 prevention and control, health protection, and disease prevention, and is not used for commercial purposes or to infringe on private life. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant agencies to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts.
The application developer does not collect or use user information for any purposes other than those stated above and will not disclose any information that could harm or violate user privacy according to Vietnamese law or the application's policy.
Additional Privacy Assurances:
- No Location Tracking: VNeID does not collect location data.
- Anonymity: Users interact anonymously within the community. Only authorized entities can access information about infected individuals or those suspected of infection due to close contact with a COVID-19 case for tracing purposes.
