Marvel Rivals Apologizes for Banning Non-Cheaters

by Grace Jan 23,2025

NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for wrongly banning numerous players using compatibility layers on Steam Deck, Mac, and Linux systems while attempting to combat cheaters. The bans, implemented on January 3rd, affected users whose compatibility software was mistakenly flagged as cheating software. NetEase has since lifted the bans and apologized for the inconvenience. Players experiencing cheating should report it, and those wrongfully banned can appeal. Proton, the SteamOS compatibility layer, is known for triggering anti-cheat systems.

Meanwhile, a separate issue concerns the lack of character bans in lower ranks. Currently, character bans—a feature allowing players to remove specific characters from selection—are only available in Diamond rank and above. Players on the game's subreddit express frustration, arguing that this mechanic should be available to all ranks. They believe it would improve gameplay balance, teach newer players the strategy, and foster more diverse team compositions beyond simple DPS teams. NetEase hasn't yet responded to this feedback.
