Halo Infinite Update Boosts Xbox FPS: Relaunch Campaign Urged

by Ethan May 15,2025

The "Summer 2025 Update" for Halo Infinite is now live and will run until June 10. This update brings a wave of fresh content, including new playlists, the powerful Mutilator weapon, sandbox enhancements, and new Forge tools. Players can also enjoy an expanded Weapon Bench with more weapons to choose from. For those looking to upgrade, the Premium Operation Pass offers 50 additional tiers, four new armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot.

Despite these new additions, some fans feel that the update might be too little too late. Halo Infinite has undergone significant changes over the years, including the rebranding of its developer from 343 Industries to Halo Studios. The game saw a sharp decline in player numbers post-launch, attributed to concerns over content scarcity, progression systems, monetization, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.

On the other hand, many players believe that Halo Infinite has never been better. In a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close," one fan expressed their enthusiasm: "I can't imagine anyone who likes Halo but hasn't given this game a chance, or haven't played since launch, would be disappointed coming back. And I can't imagine they or especially the general gaming public, realize how much has been added and changed."

This fan highlighted the extensive updates, including three new guns, numerous new maps, multiple new firefight modes, and a plethora of new content to unlock. They suggested that a new trailer showcasing these changes could significantly boost the game's reputation and player base. The sentiment was echoed by others, with one fan stating, "I wholeheartedly agree, the game is easily the best game since [Halo 3] and the best 343 has produced."

Another fan added, "Multiplayer-wise, it's the best Halo ever made," while others shared personal experiences of returning to the game and enjoying the new content. One player mentioned their journey towards achieving the Onyx rank and praised the game's fluid gameplay and excellent customization options.

However, not all feedback was positive. A less enthusiastic fan remarked, "This image represents the last little bit of hope I had. I genuinely think Halo’s time is over, the people who understood how to make the magic happen are all scattered and gone."

Back in 2021, IGN's review of Halo Infinite's single-player campaign awarded it a 9/10, stating, "Halo Infinite's single-player campaign is exactly what this series needed. It brings out the best in Master Chief's unique and satisfying combat style while leveraging old ideas to create memorable new moments. Its story falls short for both new and veteran players, but it was worth the six-year wait."

With Microsoft's strategy of releasing games across multiple platforms, some Xbox fans speculate whether Halo might follow suit. Microsoft's gaming chief, Phil Spencer, has indicated that there are no "red lines" in their first-party lineup, leaving the door open for Halo to potentially appear on PlayStation consoles in the future.
