by Thomas May 29,2025

Gearbox has officially revealed the release date for Borderlands 4. During the latest State of Play event, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford confirmed that the highly anticipated game will launch on September 23, 2025. To mark the occasion, Gearbox debuted a new trailer showcasing several exciting new gameplay features.

Play One of the most prominent additions highlighted in the trailer is the inclusion of a grappling hook. However, fans of over-the-top weapons, explosive chaos, and absurdity will have plenty to look forward to in the new footage.

To celebrate the announcement, Gearbox also disclosed plans for a special Borderlands 4-themed State of Play event this spring. This dedicated showcase will delve into additional gameplay mechanics and introduce even more creative weaponry.

While specific story details remain scarce, we know that the writing team is steering clear of the "toilet humor" that characterized parts of the previous installment. Fans are eager to see if Borderlands 4 adopts a more mature narrative tone.

Stay tuned for further updates when the special State of Play airs this spring. In the meantime, catch up on all the highlights from today's PlayStation State of Play [here].
