Warner Bros.' seemingly shelved film, Coyote vs. Acme, may yet see the light of day, according to Deadline. Ketchup Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based independent film company, is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire the completed film, previously believed to be scrapped.
While the deal isn't finalized, a theatrical release is reportedly planned for 2026 should the acquisition be successful.
Announced in 2022 and based on Ian Frazier's 1990 New Yorker article, Coyote vs. Acme is co-written by James Gunn and stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was shelved despite completing filming, prompting a significant online campaign to secure its release.
Ketchup Entertainment recently demonstrated its ability to revive shelved projects, rescuing Warner Bros.' *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie* from a similar fate. Securing a theatrical release in the US, it became the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to receive a theatrical release, earning praise as a "laugh-out-loud riot" in IGN's review.Ketchup Entertainment's previous projects include Hellboy: The Crooked Man, the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic (starring Ben Affleck), and co-production on Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
