Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event
Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Firaxis Games announced on February 28, 2025, a shift in priorities for Civilization 7 (Civ 7). The game's first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," originally slated for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, 2025, has been postponed. This decision allows the team to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements requested by the community. The update will still launch on March 4th for PC and consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release). Firaxis assures players they will share more details about the "Natural Wonder Battle" event at a later date.
Since its early access launch, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with some players expressing concerns about certain features, particularly the user interface (UI). Firaxis acknowledges this feedback, stating they are actively working on improvements and appreciate player input.
Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Feedback
Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community feedback. While full patch notes will be released upon launch, key improvements include: the addition of a new free natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle; significant UI enhancements; substantial changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve Cultural Victories. The first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will also be released alongside this update, automatically granted to those who own the relevant editions or have purchased the collection separately.
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025
Further UI improvements are slated for the next major update on March 25, 2025 (subject to change). This is part of a broader, multi-month plan to refine the UI. Future updates beyond March will also include features such as an extended "one more turn" option beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and enhanced multiplayer support. Firaxis acknowledges that timelines are subject to change and will provide more details as development progresses.
