Digital Board Game Adaptation of Caverna: The Cave Farmers Is Out on Android

The beloved board game Caverna: The Cave Farmers has now been transformed into a digital experience, aptly named Caverna. This digital adaptation, crafted by the renowned designer Uwe Rosenberg, who also created Agricola, has made its way to Android, iOS, and Steam platforms. Originally launched in 2013, this game has now been reimagined for digital play by the German studio Digidiced, known for converting numerous board games into digital formats. Currently, Caverna is available for purchase at $11.99, while Digidiced is also offering significant discounts on other titles in their portfolio, such as Terra Mystica, Stockpile, Gaia Project, Chai, and Indian Summer.

Juggling a Dozen Decisions At Once in Caverna

In Caverna, players take on the role of managing a dwarf family within their cavernous home, striving to expand and enhance their underground world in the smartest way possible. Starting with a basic cave, players can choose from a variety of paths to grow their domain. Options include clearing forests to plant crops, setting up pastures for animal rearing, or delving deeper into the mountain to mine ore and gems. Additionally, players can craft weapons and embark on adventures, adding another layer of strategy to the game. Each turn is critical in Caverna as the game concludes after a predetermined number of rounds, with scores calculated based on the player's expansion, development, and overall management.

Played the Original?

For fans of the original board game, the digital version of Caverna offers a streamlined experience that handles the game's inherent complexity with ease. Players can enjoy a solo mode with AI opponents, each with unique personalities, or compete against up to six players in both online and local multiplayer modes. The game also supports asynchronous play with push notifications, making it convenient for players to engage at their own pace. For those who enjoy a challenge, weekly challenges with leaderboards are available. Additionally, the game features a playback option to review past games, and players can choose between the classic board game aesthetic or a modern 3D visual experience. To learn more and download, check out Caverna on the Google Play Store.
