Dragon Quest III Remake: Essential Tips for Beginners

by Zachary Jan 20,2025

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty demands preparation. Here's how to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

The initial personality quiz from "She Who Watches Over All" dictates your hero's stat growth. While you can alter this later with accessories, restarting for your preferred personality is simpler. "Vamp," exclusive to female heroes, offers optimal stat boosts.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, create a custom team with classes Patty omits, allocating stats and influencing personalities for superior performance. Crucially, select a Priest for essential healing.

Acquire Powerful Early Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so securing powerful weapons is vital. Locate the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). These multi-target weapons are ideal for your Hero and a strength-based party member.

Enable Direct Party Control

Utilize the Tactics menu's "Follow Orders" setting. This grants direct control over your party members, proving invaluable during intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies hit hard. Before unlocking Zoom (around level 8), Chimaera Wings (25 gold) enable quick travel to previously visited locations, crucial for recovering injured party members.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
