Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Excellence?

by Connor May 20,2025

At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide variety of tech gadgets, but the Formovie Episode One projector caught our attention due to its unique ability to stream mobile games onto a larger screen. This device is particularly appealing for those on a tighter budget, as projectors are often priced out of reach for many consumers. The Episode One manages to meet this need effectively, despite a few minor drawbacks.

Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not possess the substantial feel of more premium models, its lighter weight—just three pounds—enhances its portability, making it an ideal companion for on-the-go entertainment.

One limitation to note is the number of ports available: a single USB-A, one HDMI, and an audio jack. This setup, while modest, should suffice for most users, considering the projector's price point.

Performance-wise, the Episode One delivers commendably for its cost. It boasts 150 ISO lumens, which means it won't be the brightest option on the market, particularly under direct sunlight. However, it excels in darker environments, as expected. We tested it with a variety of films, TV shows, and streamed games, all of which were displayed with clarity.

For optimal viewing, we found it best to position the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, while functional, produces a somewhat tinny sound. For a better audio experience, we recommend connecting an external speaker to the Episode One.

The user interface is a standout feature, offering simplicity and ease of use. The budget-friendly approach actually makes it more user-friendly than some higher-end projectors we've encountered.

In conclusion, the Formovie Episode One serves as an excellent entry point into the world of projectors. It may not excel in any single area, but it performs reliably across the board, making it an ideal choice for casual users.

*As an added bonus, purchasing an Episode One projector before May 27th comes with a $15/€15 Netflix gift card. Click here to take advantage of this offer.*
