Exciting news for handheld PC gaming enthusiasts: the Lenovo Legion Go S, powered by SteamOS, is now available for preorder at Best Buy. This marks a significant milestone as it's the first device outside of Valve's own production to feature SteamOS, the Linux-based operating system that powers the Steam Deck. Set to launch on May 25, the Legion Go S starts at an attractive price of $549.99. Let's delve into the specifics.

A higher-end model boasting a 120Hz display, AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD is priced at $749.99 at Best Buy.

The SteamOS-powered Legion Go S comes in two configurations. The first features an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD, priced at $549.99, matching the cost of the 512GB OLED Steam Deck. The second, more powerful option includes an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD, available for $749.99.

Regardless of which model you choose, you'll enjoy a 120Hz gaming handheld with two USB-C ports. Storage can be easily expanded with a microSD card, and the device also features trigger locks for hair triggers, enhancing your gameplay in competitive shooters like Marvel Rivals.

Both configurations are equipped with more powerful chips than the Steam Deck, potentially enabling you to play newer titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds that may be challenging for the Steam Deck.

Valve has also announced plans to make SteamOS available for other non-Steam Deck handhelds soon. This means you'll be able to install SteamOS on various handheld gaming PCs, potentially coinciding with the launch of these SteamOS-based Legion Go S models. If you're seeking a device more powerful than the Steam Deck to run SteamOS, the Lenovo Legion Go S should be high on your list.
