In today's crowded gaming market, finding a truly unique game can be a challenge. My Father Lied, however, stands out with its compelling narrative and intriguing gameplay. This mystery/Lovecraftian puzzle adventure boasts a story that's as captivating as its origins.
My Father Lied: An Indie Developer's Journey
The game's creation story is fascinating. Ahmed Alameen, the developer, wasn't originally a game designer. In 2020, he was a writer and filmmaker. A college friend initially suggested a collaborative game project, but the team disbanded before development began.
Undeterred, Alameen pursued the idea independently, teaching himself 3D modeling and Unreal Engine to bring his vision to life. Even the game's title was a collaborative effort with his wife.
Unveiling the Game's Narrative
The game itself plunges players into a mystery steeped in ancient Mesopotamian myths, filled with secrets, puzzles, and unexpected twists.
Players take on the role of Huda, a young woman grappling with a twenty-year-old question: what happened to her father? The answer, as the story unfolds, is far from straightforward.
Drawing inspiration from 7000 years of Mesopotamian culture, My Father Lied blends ancient lore with modern storytelling. The puzzles utilize a simple point-and-click interface, avoiding complex controls, and are complemented by stunning 2D visuals and 360-degree imagery.
