MageTrain is set to deliver a fresh twist on classic Snake gameplay when it launches on virtual storefronts next month. Developed by Tidepool Games, this free-to-play mobile roguelike combines auto-battler mechanics with strategic positioning, offering an experience that’s easy to pick up but packed with tonnes of depth. Pre-orders are now available on iOS and Android.
Taking inspiration from Nimble Quest, MageTrain builds upon the concept of leading a growing chain of heroes by introducing more characters, dungeons, and a deeper skill system. Your goal is to guide a magical train of warriors through enemy-filled arenas, carefully positioning each hero to maximise their attacks while avoiding deadly collisions.
At launch, MageTrain will feature nine unlockable heroes, each with distinct abilities that change based on their placement in the train. Some heroes excel at leading, while others provide valuable support from the rear. You'll explore eight dungeons, battle 28 enemy types, and experiment with 30 different skills to develop powerful team synergies.
The game follows a roguelike structure with a path-based system similar to Slay the Spire and FTL. Each run presents randomised challenges, allowing you to collect gold, power-ups, and upgrades that shape your strategy. With each defeat comes a chance to refine your approach, making every attempt feel like a new adventure.
