If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Joking aside, let's dive into how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*. We had our struggles figuring it out, but now we're here to guide you through the process of catching fish in this game. Spoiler Alert: It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.
Before You Start Fishing in *Rune Slayer*

Before you start reeling in those aquatic treasures, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon wants you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks soon).
Here's the catch: **to actually catch fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to guy for these essentials.

So, **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. Most seasoned anglers recommend having at least 5 worms, but we went with 10 for safety. And before you ask, **NO, you can't equip the bait**. The Worms just need to be in your inventory, and although you don’t equip them, they’re used automatically when you fish. **Each time you catch a fish, one Worm is removed from your inventory**.
Here's the crucial part: **you won’t be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried fishing with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. Once we had 5 Worms in our inventory, the fish started biting. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you're stocked up, you can move on to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in *Rune Slayer*

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it traditionally, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready to fish.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier near Simon the Fisherman is a great spot).
Next, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. That's the basic technique.
Note that **this method isn't foolproof**. Often, you won’t catch anything, and other times, you might pull up junk. The good news is **Simon counts junk as a catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
So, keep casting your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space for more important items.
And that's the scoop on fishing in *Rune Slayer*. Enjoy your time on the water! If you need more tips, don't forget to check out our **The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer***.
