MK1: Homelander and Omni-Man to Feature Unique Movesets

by Peyton May 15,2025

Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon recently shed light on how the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 will distinguish between the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. In an insightful interview at Gamescom, Boon addressed fan concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two iconic figures.

Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

During his conversation with IGN, Boon emphasized the creative approach taken by the MK1 developers to ensure that players experience unique gameplay with both characters. He explained that the team has been given ample creative freedom to craft distinct move sets for each hero, avoiding any duplication of abilities that might make them feel too similar.

Boon specifically mentioned steering clear of giving both Homelander and Omni-Man identical Superman-like powers, such as heat vision. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," he stated, highlighting their commitment to differentiation.

Furthermore, Boon revealed that the inspiration for the characters' Fatalities stems directly from their actions in their respective shows. This approach not only ensures that Homelander and Omni-Man will play differently but also addresses any assumptions that they might be mere clones of each other. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, 'Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon elaborated.
