Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.
The reasons behind the shutdown remain undisclosed, although NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.
The status of in-game purchases remains uncertain. While NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. haven't commented on refunds for in-game currency or items, they've promised further updates. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements regarding refunds.
Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike previous installments, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players teamed up with Raiden to thwart Shinnok's power grab.
