Nintendo has issued a significant warning to U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, stating that it may struggle to meet demand on the console's launch day, set for June 5. The company has advised those who registered their interest in purchasing the console from the My Nintendo Store that delivery by the release date cannot be guaranteed. This follows a similar warning issued to customers in Japan, where the demand has been exceptionally high.
In a recent update on its website, Nintendo expressed gratitude to those who have shown interest in buying the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store. "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed. Your invitation email may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We'll confirm your shipping date upon purchase," the statement read.
To increase the chances of securing a Switch 2 at launch, Nintendo suggested pre-ordering from third-party retailers. However, pre-orders at these retailers, including GameStop, have already sold out shortly after going live. "If you wish to increase your opportunity of obtaining a Nintendo Switch 2 system at launch, please visit our participating retail partners above," Nintendo advised, though the GameStop link showed the console as sold out.
For those who prefer to wait for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store, no further action is needed after registering interest. The struggle to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, coupled with these warnings, indicates that the console will be challenging to obtain around its launch date.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied for a pre-order of the Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store. He noted that this "extremely large number of applications... far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5."
According to a FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the My Nintendo Store in the U.S. will start being sent out on May 8, 2025. Subsequent batches will be sent "periodically" until the purchasing window opens to everyone. Initial invitations will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, with invitees having 72 hours to complete their purchase upon receiving the email.
To qualify for priority invitations, customers must meet the following criteria:
- You must have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership.
- You must have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months.
- You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours of total gameplay.
Last week, Nintendo announced that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would begin on April 24, 2025, with the console priced at $449.99 and a launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain at $499.99, with Mario Kart World priced at $79.99 and Donkey Kong Bananza at $69.99 for both physical and digital versions. However, Nintendo has increased the price of Switch 2 accessories due to ongoing tariff issues.
Originally, pre-orders were set to open on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions. For those interested in pre-ordering the Nintendo Switch 2, GameCube controllers, or other accessories and games, it's advisable to follow the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide for the latest updates and information on how to increase your chances of getting a console on launch day.
