Hello discerning readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, wasn't it? A flurry of surprise releases, too! This usually quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's a welcome change. We've got news, a look at today's eShop additions, and the daily sales updates. Let's dive in!
News
The Partner/Indie World Showcase Delivered
Combining two smaller showcases was a smart move, resulting in a wave of announcements. While I can't cover everything here, highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new Atelier and Rune Factory titles, and much more. I recommend watching the video for a complete overview. Plenty of fantastic games for diverse tastes.
Select New Releases
Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)
A third Castlevania collection emerged from the Direct's shadow drops. It features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, and a superior M2-developed remake. As expected from M2, this is a high-quality release with excellent emulation and desirable features. An incredible value for the price.
Pizza Tower ($19.99)
This Wario Land-inspired platformer sprints onto the Switch as another Direct surprise release. Conquer the five massive floors of the Pizza Tower to save your restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will appreciate this; even those without strong Wario feelings but who enjoy platformers should check it out. A review is planned, time permitting.
Goat Simulator 3 ($29.99)
The shadow drops continue – a Wednesday wouldn't be the same without them! Goat Simulator 3 arrives. You know the drill. Performance on the Switch is uncertain, as more powerful consoles have experienced issues. Proceed with caution, though even poor performance might fit the game's chaotic nature. Silly goats, silly antics, open-world mayhem – your Switch might just combust. Your call.
Peglin ($19.99)
While it's easy to criticize missed opportunities, EA's failure to bring PopCap games to Switch feels like a massive oversight. A collection would have been ideal. Regardless, Peglin scratches that Peggle itch. Available on mobile, it's equally enjoyable on Switch. Essentially Peggle meets turn-based RPG roguelite. A review is forthcoming.
Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story ($20.00)
Kairosoft's shop sim formula gets a fresh coat of paint with the Doraemon license. Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story features familiar characters and even includes cameos from the manga artist's other works. A charming addition.
Pico Park 2 ($8.99)
More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can join via local or online multiplayer. The more, the merrier! Solve puzzle stages requiring teamwork and clever strategies. A solid sequel, but unlikely to attract newcomers.
Kamitsubaki City Ensemble ($3.99)
An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple, enjoyable, and well-priced.
SokoPenguin ($4.99)
A Sokoban-style puzzle game with a penguin protagonist. One hundred levels. Simple premise, instant appeal or not.
Q2 Humanity ($6.80)
Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles. Utilize character abilities and drawing mechanics. Supports up to four players locally or online.
