Pokemon TCG Pocket's Trading Feature Faces Backlash, Prompts Developer Response

Pokemon TCG Pocket Backlash Prompts Trading Feature Improvements

DeNA, the developer of Pokemon TCG Pocket, has pledged improvements to the game's recently implemented trading feature following significant player criticism. The controversy centers around the perceived high cost and restrictive nature of the trading system.

High Cost of Trade Tokens Sparks Outrage

The trading feature, launched January 29th, 2025, allows players to exchange 1-4 star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs. However, the required "trade tokens" are proving difficult to acquire.

Players must sacrifice higher-rarity cards to obtain tokens, creating a system where trading valuable cards becomes prohibitively expensive. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card requires 500 tokens, while selling a 1-Star card yields only 100. This forces players to "burn" multiple rare cards to facilitate a single trade.

DeNA acknowledged the concerns in a February 1st, 2025, Twitter (X) post, stating they are exploring alternative methods for obtaining trade tokens, including event distributions. They also clarified that the stringent rules were implemented to deter bot activity and multi-account exploitation.

Genetic Apex Booster Pack Accessibility Confusion

Another point of contention involves the recent release of the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs. Some players reported the disappearance of Genetic Apex packs from the main screen.

While Genetic Apex packs remain accessible via a less prominent "Select other booster packs" option, the poor visibility led to concerns about their removal. Players speculated this was a deliberate marketing tactic to encourage purchases of newer packs. Suggestions for improving the home screen's clarity have been made, but DeNA has yet to respond directly to this specific issue.

The developer's commitment to addressing these issues offers hope for future improvements to the trading system and overall user experience. However, the current state of the trading feature and the initial confusion surrounding booster pack selection highlight the importance of clear communication and intuitive design in game development.
