Redwing Decks Take Flight in Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather limited—Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey being the mainstays—until the arrival of Redwing, Falcon's avian ally, in the Brave New World season.

Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap

Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it's moved, it adds a card from your hand to its original location. This presents some key limitations: Redwing's ability is a one-time use, unaffected by cards like Symbiote Spider-Man or attempts to replay it. Precise card targeting with Redwing proves challenging. Move decks often utilize low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable targets, while Scream decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than their own.

Despite these limitations, inexpensive move cards like Madame Web or Cloak (accessible to lower Collection Level players) can effectively utilize Redwing. Its potential for surprising victories lies in deploying a powerful card like Galactus early or drawing a high-value card such as The Infinaut.

Optimal Redwing Deck Compositions (Day One)

Ares and Surtur-centric decks, popular in the previous season, have adapted to incorporate Scream, Aero, and Heimdall. Redwing finds a niche here, though often overshadowed by the priority of playing Surtur on turn 3. A sample deck includes:

Hydra Bob, Scream, Kraven, Captain America, Redwing, Polaris, Surtur, Ares, Cull Obsidian, Aero, Heimdall, Magneto. (Note: This deck is expensive, featuring multiple Series 5 cards.)

The strategy revolves around turn 3 Surtur deployment, followed by high-power cards to boost Surtur's power. Scream provides an alternative win condition by stealing power. Polaris, Aero, and Magneto facilitate card manipulation, while Redwing, when played into Heimdall, buffs Surtur and draws a high-power card.

Another potential deck incorporates Madame Web, given the reduced viability of move-centric decks post-Dagger nerf:

Ant-Man, Madame Web, Psylocke, Sam Wilson, Captain America, Luke Cage, Captain America, Redwing, Doom 2099, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. (This deck features Madame Web and Doom 2099 as Series 5 cards.)

This deck centers around Doom 2099, aiming for widespread power distribution. Madame Web aids in strategic card placement, and Redwing provides a supplementary card draw. However, Redwing's activation relies solely on Madame Web's ability.

Is Redwing Worth Investing In?

Currently, Redwing's value is questionable. Its limited power and reliance on a less-popular archetype suggest saving resources for more impactful cards. A significant buff from Second Dinner might alter this assessment.
